Frequently Asked Questions

What is Green Nomads?

Green Nomads is an initiative from ECOFELLA and aims to plant 1 million trees.

We do so by planting 10 trees for every bracelet sold. It is time to make a change, and we aim to contribute positively to the restoration of a healthy planet.

Can I wear them in water?

Although you technically could wear your Green Nomads bracelet in water, we recommend you not to.

This way your bracelet stays beautiful for as long as possible.

It is easy to take your bracelet off before going in the water (or taking a shower). If you wear it in water regularly, it might break.

Tree planting

How does the tree planting work?

When you purchase a bracelet, we will donate 10 trees to our partner Eden Reforestation Projects. They will then plant the trees for us in Madagascar, by involving local villagers and giving them a decent income to provide for their families.

What types of trees do you plant?

We only plant mangrove trees that are native to Madagascar.

Why mangrove trees?

  • They protect shorelines from erosion by storm, hurricane winds, waves, and floods

  • They are important for animals to live and feed in, serve as nursery areas for fishes, and support threatened and endangered species (alligators, sea turtles, snakes, birds, etc.) that feed and nest in mangrove systems

  • They are beneficial for locals as well, as they provide healthy waters to fish in and healthy lands to farm on

  • They maintain water quality; they filters sediments, heavy metals, and other pollutants, protecting downstream habitat like coral reefs and seagrass beds

  • They capture lots of CO2, even 2-4 times more than tropical forests! Mangrove trees are essential in the fight against climate change.

Where do you plant the trees?

The mangrove trees will be planted in the north-west coastal area in Madagascar. There, deforestation has a destructive effect on ecosystems and local communities. The restoration of healthy forests here is much needed.

3080kg CO2 removed, can I really have such impact?

Absolutely. An average mangrove tree sequestrates (= capture and store) 308kg CO2 in an average lifetime of 25 years. 10 trees thus sequestrate 3080kg CO2 from the air in their lifespan.

Not only will these trees take out CO2 from the air and create oxygen, they also restore coastal lines, which are important for sea animals, and ensure healthy lands for native species and local communities.

How can I be sure the money goes to the planting of trees?

We signed a contract with Eden Projects about the tree planting partnership, which makes us obliged to fulfil that promise. You can also find us on their website as an official tree-planting partner.

Also, keep an eye on our social media pages (Facebook & Instragam). We post updates about the tree planting every month! :)
